Math Olympics
Program Description
The Math Olympics is a one-day event held in the spring, hosted by the Math Department and funded by the Bret Harte Community Club. The event is held after-school from approximately 3 - 5pm. For the first hour, students work in teams on math puzzles in classrooms which are administered by the math teachers. When they are done, students go to the quad to enjoy snacks while the teachers grade their work. Following snack time there is a casual 'awards ceremony' where prizes are given out for various achievement levels. All students of all math levels can participate. Volunteer Responsibilities Donate snacks Chair Responsibilities Work with Mr. Ching on budget, prizes, participation numbers and event logistics. Track all food donations and send reminders to parents. Purchase waters, utensils, plates and napkins from Costco. Set up and clean up on day of event. Math Olympics - 4.24.2019This year we have approximately 220 students participating in the 2nd annual Bret Harte Math Olympics. The Olympics are organized by the Math Department and the Bret Harte Community Club. The event is open to all Bret Harte students. Students complete fun math activities in teacher classrooms, enjoy donated snacks while math activities are being graded, then attend a brief awards ceremony in the gym. Prizes are given out to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams by math class category. All students receive a Certificate of Participation. The Math Olympics event is a fun way to promote learning and community across all students and families at Bret Harte!
