Traditionally, each year, the Bret Harte Community Club organizes a career fair with the purpose of exposing eighth-grade students to different career choices. Here, varied professionals from the community come into school to share information about their profession. Students attend these in-person sessions and interact with presenters.
This year, due to the pandemic, we have decided to conduct a virtual career fair. The virtual fair will work as follows. First, community professionals record videos. Then, we make these videos available online to all middle school students for a week from May 12th. Following this, we plan to conduct an online, Live Q & A session in which students can ask presenters questions about their professions.
The Live Q&A session is planned for May 19th evening, 6 pm to 7:30 pm PST.
If you wish to share thoughts and ideas about your careers, we would love to hear from you! If you are interested and willing to provide a video before May 8th, please fill out this form.
For suggestions about content that you may want to include in your video, click here.
You can address the students in your video recording in an informal format, or on-site at your place of work. You could even screen record a presentation.
Once recorded, upload your videos to a cloud storage platform (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc). Then, email this link to [email protected].
For instructions on how to screen record your presentation, please check this zoom link.
BHCC is hosting David Hagerman's live 45-minute Extreme Science virtual assembly for all BH students during lunch breaks on MAY 4th and 18th. Mom, dad and siblings are also welcome to join us. Attendance is FREE. Event link will be provided in student’s Canvas account.
David Hagerman has been performing his science assemblies for over 20 years. Though he is based in Branson, MO, David performs all over the country. But this year, they are focusing on doing virtual shows only with the hopes of being able to do in-person assemblies when the pandemic ends. Extreme Science 2.0 is a forty-five minute program that can be performed for grades K-12. For our middle school students, their virtual online school assembly will feature visual experiments and the science will be explained on a deeper, more advanced level.
Request For Funding (RFF)
As our Bret Harte teachers and staff are busy preparing for students to return to in-person learning, we hear our teachers are in wide need of USB hubs as there are more components linked to laptops. With the BHCC board’s warm support, the BHCC RFF program sponsors USB hubs as a “Welcome Back to School Tech Gift” for each teaching staff, to support effective instruction.
The “Welcome Back to School Tech Gifts” have been delivered to our Bret Harte teachers before in-person learning starts, and have been very well received by our teachers.
To our super Bret Harte teachers, “THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO”!
Healthy Lunch Challenge
Thanks to all the students who participated in April’s Healthy Lunch Challenge sponsored by BHCC! It was wonderful to see students enjoying healthy eating and all the creative lunches that were prepared. Some of these lunches are pictured below. 10 randomly selected students will receive a $10 Amazon gift card for participating. Keep an eye out for more challenges next year for your chance to win!
Thank you to everyone who supported BHCC by participating in our February 23rd fundraiser at Mod Pizza. Over 40 people attended the fundraiser, ordering pizza for delivery, for pick up or for outdoor dining. This easy and delicious fundraiser generated $300 for BHCC. We appreciate the support of our Bret Harte families as well as Mod Pizza for working to support our community.
During this unusual time of distance learning, we would like to continue to support our teachers and students. We hope to provide teachers with distance learning supplies and PPE, continue to recognize outstanding student and teacher effort, provide virtual parent education, and fund other programs and needs as they arise. We are asking for a $150 donation or any amount that you are able to contribute. There are multiple ways to donate:
Indicate your student's name(s) in the Memo field so we can associate the donation with your child
