Greetings fellow BRONCOS! We are super excited and proud as your Bret Harte Community Club (BHCC) co-presidents this school year 2019-2020.
First of all, a warm welcome to all returning and new Broncos families! To all who are new Broncos families, Bret Harte Community Club is a non-profit organization which supports the students, parents, teachers, and staff of Bret Harte Middle School. Together with an amazing group of parent volunteers, a dedicated Bret Harte Community Club Executive Board, our wonderful teachers, and Principal, the BHCC is an integral part of the Bret Harte family.
Throughout the school year, not only do we host fun and educational events and workshops for both students and parents such as Book Fair, Cultural Fair, Math Olympics and Project Cornerstone, but also we provide funds and volunteers for our teachers and staff. Please stay tuned for the upcoming announcements for year-round events. Please don’t forget to check BHCC calendar for all the updates!
All of the above programs take hard work and dedication of our community club members. We all want the best education and experience for our children. That’s why we all individually need to do what we can to make it happen. Whether it is an idea, 30 minute or an hour on campus or after work, your involvement is truly needed. By volunteering at our school, you get the chance to interact with kids, make friends with fellow BRONCOS parents and help accomplish things that truly make a difference in the lives of all our students. We are in immediate need of some of our committee chairs. Please refer to open positions. Our team will work with all volunteers to match their available time and skills.
The Bret Harte Community Club Donation Drive has begun! Our programs cannot be successful without your generous support. We are asking each family to donate $250 per student or any amount in order to help us reach our $62,000 annual goal. Also, don’t forget company match to your donation. Thanks to all the families that have already donated to the Bret Harte Community Club Donation Drive!
On behalf of the entire Bret Harte Community Club executive board, we’d like to thank you in advance for your support. Thanks to all the parents who have attended our first general meeting on August 28, 2019.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach us at [email protected].
The BHCC Donation Drive is in progress and we are really hoping for some additional donations. With less than 15% of families participating we know we can do better! While we are asking for a $250 donation per student, any amount that you can provide is accepted and appreciated.
BHCC provides many invaluable services that are not possible without your support. We provide student programs such as Project Cornerstone, Everyday Heroes, and student SNAC store as well as student events such Bronco Nights, Cultural Fair, Career Day and the 8th Grade Promotion Dance. We also provide funds to meet specific teacher and department needs, whether it be for books, new technology or classroom supplies. This year we were also able to fund the new filtered waterbottle filling stations found throughout campus.
You can donate by picking up a donation form in the office or online here. We are working to enhance the academic life of all students here at Bret Harte and hope that we have your support.
PESTS (Parents Encouraging Supportive Teachers and Staff) is a “Secret PAL” program by parent volunteers to support teachers and staff on bi-weekly basis.
A PESTee is one of the Bret Harte teachers, and a PESTer will be you. A PESTer may write a quick note of encouragement and perhaps wrap up a favorite candy bar, or package up a box of the PESTee’s favorite chocolate, or bring coffee/milk tea on the PESTee’s toughest day of the week...You deliver cards and gifts anonymously to the PESTee’s mailbox in the office. By the end of school year, you may reveal yourselves to the PESTees at the volunteer appreciation luncheon.
If you are interested in becoming a PESTer, please send your name, your student’s name, and your top four preferences of teachers’ names to [email protected].

Thank You For Attending BHCC General Meeting!
Our first general meeting of BHCC was on August 28th 2019 where co-presidents Yael Kharman and Shallu Bhalla introduced themselves and BHCC mission. Bret Harte Principal, Alanna Callaway-Wilson, welcomed the Bronco families and gave a brief overview of the upcoming year. Then BHCC co-presidents introduced the board members to Bronco families. They also covered the programs that BHCC is planning to arrange during the year. Teachers’ testimonies were also delivered by Ms. Robles, Mrs. Patton and Mrs. McCurley. They talked in detail about how BHCC has supported their classrooms and benefited student programs. Later Yael and Shallu also highlighted the open board member positions and take on the open board member positions. They also requested the Bronco community to volunteer their time to make a positive change in students’ lives. Notably, they made an appeal towards donation drive as this year’s goal is 62K. Handouts were distributed at this general meeting including, donation drive forms, volunteering forms, important website links page and treasurer’s report. Please feel free to go over BHCC website for more details.
Bret Harte parent club hosted Staff Appreciation lunch on August 9th. We catered food from California Pizza Kitchen. Bret Harte teacher’s and staff enjoyed variety of pizzas, quinoa salad, lettuce wraps, brownies and cookies. This was a "welcome back" lunch for them. Staff Appreciation co chairs and a few Board members help out to make this event a success.
Bronco night on September 20, Friday was a blast for the students. Our students danced non stop and sang to any song they knew and loved! Special thanks to our leadership and parent volunteers who organized the party and took out time to be there. The students organized the party with snacks, trending songs, glowsticks, and festive decorations. The parents made sure that everyone was safe and checked in/out.
